{"id":14391,"date":"2026-08-01T05:25:34","date_gmt":"2026-08-01T05:25:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/viralscontent.com\/?p=14391"},"modified":"2026-08-01T05:25:34","modified_gmt":"2026-08-01T05:25:34","slug":"emily-willis-lands-1-25m","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/viralscontent.com\/?p=14391","title":{"rendered":"Emily Willis lands $1.25m\u2026"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Emily Willis will receive just a fraction of the $3 million her family has been awarded in a settlement after being left \u2018permanently disabled.\u2019<br \/>\nThe former adult film star was the victim of a \u2018horrendous breakdown in clinical care\u2019 while attending the Summit Malibu rehab facility, a lawsuit filed by her family in December 2024 claimed.<\/p>\n<p>Willis, 27, was being treated for ketamine addiction \u2013 as she was consuming \u2018five to six grams\u2019 of it a day \u2013 but, the lawsuit alleged, her health deteriorated quickly after checking into the facility in January 2024.<\/p>\n<p>Willis has been left \u2018permanently disabled\u2019 (Matt Winkelmeyer\/Getty Images)<br \/>\nA settlement has been reached which has awarded Willis and her family $3 million. The defendants denied wrongdoing and did not admit liability.<\/p>\n<p>TMZ reports Willis is expected to receive approximately $1.25 million of that sum after attorney fees and liens.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s reported her mother will remain as her conservator.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking in the wake of the settlement being reached earlier in July, attorney James A Morris Jr said in a court declaration: \u201cHaving lived and breathed this case for nearly two years, I can state with confidence that Ms. Banuelos is significantly injured, but that this case was no slam dunk.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She has been awarded $3m (Ethan Miller\/Getty Images)<br \/>\nWhat happened to Emily Willis?<br \/>\nThose closest to Willis \u2013 real name Litzy Lara Banuelos \u2013 alleged her \u2018health was ignored until it was too late\u2019, causing her life to change \u2018forever.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>TMZ reports she was left \u2018frail, disoriented, dehydrated, and unable to properly walk, eat or care for herself.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Court documents say Willis was found unconscious a month after checking in to the clinic on February 4, 2024, having suffered a cardiac arrest.<\/p>\n<p>Paramedics performed CPR on her for 30-40 minutes before they finally managed to get her heart going again.<\/p>\n<p>However, going so long without oxygen allegedly led to irreversible brain damage, leaving Willis with severe paralysis and long-term disability.<\/p>\n<p>Court documents state Willis sometimes grunts and occasionally opens her eyes, but she is unable to respond consistently.<\/p>\n<p>Following the incident, Willis\u2019 mum Yesenia Lara Cooper filed a lawsuit against Summit Malibu and its parent company, Malibu Lighthouse Treatment Centers, in December 2024.<\/p>\n<p>Summit Malibu\u2019s lawyers previously claimed in court docs that Willis \u2018had refused to follow medical recommendations and take her medications\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>They said Willis declined the staff\u2019s recommendation that she be transported to a hospital prior to suffering the heart attack, claiming: \u201cShe refused to go to urgent care or the hospital voluntarily, despite being encouraged to do so.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The rehab facility denied any wrongdoing.<\/p>\n<p>The $3 million settlement was approved by Santa Monica Superior Court Judge Susan Bryant-Deason on Willis\u2019 behalf due to her current condition, the Independent reported.<\/p>\n<p>Willis\u2019 former partner, Mike Majlak, previously opened up about his ex-girlfriend being in \u2018a vegetative state\u2019 since the 2024 incident.<\/p>\n<p>During an appearance on Steve-O\u2019s Wild Ride podcast in 2024, he said: \u201cIt\u2019s bad, actually. She was incredible.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe had a really great friendship and relationship, but she had her own struggles, and she recently, while at rehab, fell into a coma, and she\u2019s been in a vegetative state.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A timeline of Emily Willis\u2019 medical catastrophe<br \/>\n27 January 2024<br \/>\nWillis, then aged 25, checks into rehab facility Summit Malibu after developing a ketamine addiction, with legal documents saying she had been \u2018ingesting five to six grams per day for a year\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>She also suffers from bladder inflammation, night terrors, anxiety, and PTSD, and was 16 pounds underweight.<\/p>\n<p>30 January 2024<br \/>\nAccording to Summit Malibu\u2019s notes (as detailed in legal filings), Willis was described as \u2018disheveled, frail, disoriented\u2019, and as having difficulty walking.<\/p>\n<p>3 February 2024<br \/>\nEmergency services were called to Summit Malibu with Willis having difficulty breathing, but she was not transported to hospital.<\/p>\n<p>4 February 2024<br \/>\nWillis is found unconscious in her room.
