Having to balance work, the housework, and taking care of my children, I sometimes feel too overwhelmed and too tired to be able to cook for the family, so it\u2019s not unusual that I sometimes skip preparing dinner and rely on takeout.<\/p>\n
Over time, we and our delivery guy, Ravi, became sort of friends.<\/p>\n
However, during his last visit, he didn\u2019t seem like he\u2019s usual self. Instead of the friendly greeting I was used to, he didn\u2019t really say anything except for one shy \u201cHi.\u201d<\/p>\n
I found that strange, but I just though he had a bad day or something, so I didn\u2019t say anything.<\/p>\n
What was even more strange was the way he hurried when I took the order. It was obvious Ravi was pretty nervous, and I had no idea why. Did it have something to do with my family? Who knew.<\/p>\n
But just as I tried getting the food out of the bags, I noticed a note written on one of them. It read, \u201cCheck your trash!\u201d
\nAt that very moment, I got scared. Was there something that Ravi knew and I didn\u2019t?<\/p>\n
I was hesitant to even open the trash can, but then I finally gathered the courage and what I found inside shook my world \u2014 gloves, tools, and a bottle of corrosive liquid.<\/p>\n
I alerted the police, who told me not to touch anything until they arrived.<\/p>\n
Well, it turned out that the liquid was used to weaken the locks of my house. Someone was planning to rob us.<\/p>\n
The following day, we set up cameras. I was still very scared, but thankful to Ravi who warned us about the possible danger.<\/p>\n
A couple of days later, I met him while walking around the neighborhood. \u201cRavi, can I talk to you for a second?\u201d I said.<\/p>\n
He approached, but it felt like he was afraid of me. \u201cHow did you know we were in danger?\u201d I asked. He then told me he had seen some suspicious people lurking around the house and the trash can.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou may have saved my family,\u201d I told him.<\/p>\n
Cameras or not, I knew we weren\u2019t out of danger. Watching the monitor night after night, a knot of fear sat beside my gratitude \u2014 at least we were warned.<\/p>\n
