After years of keeping their children out of the Hollywood spotlight, Sarah Michelle Gellar and Freddie Prinze Jr. have let their teen son step into view in a set of new photographs shared during a motorsport racing weekend, published in connection with his birthday. For a family that long guarded its children’s privacy — faces often covered by emojis in shared photos — the appearance marks a quiet milestone: the parents are now letting him share more of his own journey.

That privacy was a deliberate choice. Gellar, who acted as a child herself, wanted her children to decide for themselves what to share, while Prinze Jr. was uncomfortable regularly posting their pictures and scaled back his career after becoming a father. The result was a childhood largely kept away from cameras, even as both parents remained public figures.

The new photos sparked a playful online debate between “Team Mom” and “Team Dad”. Some fans joked that the father’s genes had won out, others insisted he was his mother’s double, and a few saw a mix of both — and the couple themselves have long disagreed over whom he resembles. The reaction, in other words, was genuinely divided, not a verdict one way or the other.

What stands out most is the path he is building for himself. His interest is racing rather than acting — he is pursuing a Formula 1 ambition through go-karting — and the milestone feels less like a celebrity reveal and more like a young person beginning to define his own identity, on his own terms, with his parents’ support behind him.
