# Terrifying Disneyland Accident: 13-Year-Old Boy Hospitalized After Falling Down 50-Foot Ride Drop

A fun-filled day at Disneyland turned into a frightening experience after a 13-year-old boy reportedly fell from one of the park’s popular water attractions while the ride was still operating. The incident left fellow visitors shocked and raised fresh questions about amusement park safety and the importance of following ride instructions.

The accident occurred on Sunday, June 21, at Tiana’s Bayou Adventure in Disneyland, Anaheim, California. The attraction features a dramatic water ride ending in a steep drop of approximately 50 feet.

According to reports, the teenager somehow exited his ride vehicle before the experience had finished. Moments later, he tumbled down the massive drop, sliding and spinning as the attraction continued. Video footage obtained by TMZ appeared to capture the frightening moment, showing the boy falling just seconds after another log carrying passengers had plunged down the same waterfall.

The screams of nearby visitors quickly alerted others that something was terribly wrong. Disneyland employees immediately stopped the attraction and began responding to the emergency.

One witness, identified as Paul, told NBC News that he heard screaming and turned toward the ride to check on his grandson. His grandson reportedly described seeing the teenager fall down the drop “like a rag doll.”

Paul also took a photograph showing a crowd gathered near the bottom of the attraction, with guests looking toward the waterfall in disbelief.

Fortunately, the boy survived the frightening fall. Disneyland officials confirmed that he was taken to a local hospital for evaluation as a precaution and was later released. Although the incident could have ended much worse, the teenager’s survival brought some relief to those who witnessed the accident.

Following the incident, California’s Division of Occupational Safety and Health launched an investigation to determine whether any mechanical or operational problems had contributed to the fall.

However, inspectors reportedly found no operational issues with the attraction. According to agency spokesperson Katherine Wzorek, the inspection did not identify any problems that would prevent the ride from operating safely. Tiana’s Bayou Adventure was subsequently cleared to reopen on Tuesday.

The incident also brought attention to the unusual safety design of traditional log-flume attractions. Unlike many roller coasters, these water rides generally do not use lap bars or traditional seat restraints. Their boats are designed with a low center of gravity to help passengers remain seated during the ride.

Safety experts have also explained that installing additional restraints is not necessarily a straightforward solution. In certain emergency situations, particularly if a ride vehicle overturns in water, restraints could potentially make it more difficult for passengers to escape.

While investigators did not identify an operational malfunction, the circumstances surrounding the teenager’s decision to leave his ride vehicle remain an important part of understanding what happened.

For families visiting amusement parks, the incident serves as a powerful reminder that ride instructions are not merely suggestions. Passengers should remain seated, keep their hands and feet inside the vehicle, and never attempt to exit before the ride has completely stopped and an employee gives permission.

Disneyland is known for creating magical memories for millions of visitors, but this frightening incident is a reminder that even a day filled with excitement can turn dangerous when safety precautions are ignored.

Thankfully, the young boy was released from the hospital, and the attraction was allowed to reopen after inspection. Nevertheless, the terrifying moments captured on video are likely to remain in the memories of those who witnessed them.
