We\u2019re trying to figure out how to navigate our lives and move forward without him,\u201d Elizabeth, 34, wrote via Instagram on Sunday, November 23, in a joint post with Andrei Castravet.<\/p>\n
The message concluded, \u201cPlease respect our privacy during this extremely difficult time.\u201d<\/p>\n
Potthast was featured on several episodes of 90 Day Fianc\u00e9, where viewers watched the ups and downs of Elizabeth and Andrei\u2019s relationship since their season 5 debut.<\/p>\n
The couple, who initially crossed paths on a dating app before meeting in-person in Dublin, tied the knot in 2017. Elizabeth and Andrei, 39, have since welcomed daughter Eleanor and son Winston in 2019 and 2022, respectively.<\/p>\n
Two years later, Andrei joked during an exclusive interview with Us Weekly that Elizabeth\u2019s family is \u201clike a cult.\u201d<\/p>\n

While laughing, Elizabeth claimed that her family is \u201cnot that bad.\u201d The pair shared that they only speak with Chuck and her sister, Becky Potthast.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe rest we didn\u2019t speak for many years,\u201d Andrei said, while Elizabeth explained that keeping distance from her family has resulted in less tension in her marriage.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe don\u2019t fight as much, for sure,\u201d she said. \u201cThey did come in between us. We have so much more peace in our home in general.\u201d<\/p>\n
While reflecting on her dynamics with her family, Elizabeth explained what led to their rift.<\/p>\n
\u201cEverybody would just get together and would talk about my decisions. It just got to a point where it was too toxic,\u201d she shared. \u201cI\u2019m really only speaking with my dad and Becky, and sometimes my mom. Honestly, once I took some time apart, I saw how good it was, and you just see life in the world differently. I don\u2019t want to go back into that toxicity.\u201d<\/p>\n
In Andrei\u2019s eyes, just because they are family doesn\u2019t mean they have to stay in the \u201ctoxic\u201d environment.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou\u2019re not going to sacrifice your life,\u201d he said. \u201cYou have to think about yourself too.\u201d<\/p>\n
While Elizabeth eventually realized her family members were doing her a \u201cdisservice,\u201d she noted that it\u2019s possible \u201cway in the future\u201d that she could reconcile with her family. At the time, however, Elizabeth shared that she was content with the space.<\/p>\n
\u201cAt some point, I feel like it\u2019s bound to just come up or there\u2019s going to be some situation, but right now, no,\u201d she said. \u201cAre they going to change? Do people change? I don\u2019t think that they change.\u201d<\/p>\n
Andrei, for his part, shared that he thinks her family will \u201cnever be changed\u201d despite the time and space.<\/p>\n
