My Husband Wanted to Live With Two Women — I Made Him Realize He Couldn’t Have Both Lives on His Terms

My husband, Callum, came home one evening and calmly announced, “I’m in love with another woman, but I still love you, too, so I’ll simply live in both houses.” I assumed he had to be joking. That illusion disappeared when he began stuffing his clothes into a duffel bag, and I realized he was completely serious. After eight years of marriage, we had a wonderful five-year-old son, Kieran, and Callum had always seemed like a loving husband and devoted father. I truly believed our family was happy.

Then, while I was in the kitchen, he sat across from me and said he had something important to tell me and wanted me to listen without interrupting. He told me he had fallen for a woman named Elena, but insisted that he still loved me and had no intention of leaving me.

I laughed at first because I thought this had to be some terrible joke, but Callum’s expression never changed. Instead, he explained that he had already created what he considered the “perfect compromise.” He planned to stay with me and Kieran from Monday through Wednesday, then spend the remainder of the week at Elena’s house across town. I stared at him, stunned that he could discuss splitting our family as casually as if he were arranging a work schedule. When I told him there was no chance I would accept such an arrangement, he simply sighed, gave my shoulder a reassuring pat, and went into our bedroom. Before long, he had pulled out his duffel bag and started gathering his belongings. “You just need some time to process everything,” he said as he headed toward the door, adding that he was going to Elena’s and would return Monday for his time with Kieran.

By Monday afternoon, I heard the familiar sound of his key turning in the lock. Callum walked through the front door carrying his bag and sounded almost cheerful. “Hey! I hope you’ve had time to cool off and see reason,” he called as he made his way toward the living room. He seemed completely confident that I had accepted the strange arrangement he had created without asking me. But the moment he reached the doorway and saw what I had prepared for him, all that confidence vanished. He stopped abruptly, let his bag fall to the floor, and stared in disbelief. Then he stammered, “Wait… this isn’t what we agreed on!”
